Freelance Copywriter

We are looking for a Copywriter based in Stellenbosch! Working Type: Hybrid Hours: 40+ hours per week Budget: R48 640 (Freelancer Take Home)


About this position

Main Responsibilities:

Content Creation:

  • Craft compelling and concise copy for various channels, including email, SMS, in-app and digital programmatic
  • Understand and navigate character constraints in different communication platforms
  • Leverage AI prompts, including ChatGPT4, to enhance and scale content creation
  • Building a content library for Salesforce will be a primary focus, applying the brand refresh to old and new communication

Integrated Campaigns:

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of complex integrated campaigns
  • Solve for both digital and traditional channels, with a 90% focus on digital platforms
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across all channels

Design Studio:

  • Deliver against agreed SLAs in a high pressure, high delivery environment
  • Cultivate and uphold strong relationships within the Internal Design Studio through effective communication and collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to comprehend organisational goals, project requirements and maintain alignment with the brand voice
  • Provide strategic input to ensure that copy aligns seamlessly with internal objectives and effectively communicates the intended message
  • Collaborate with the Design team to align projects with brand image
  • Facilitate effective communication channels and teamwork within the Internal Design Studio for cohesive and successful project outcomes

Figma Experience:

  • Proficient in utilising Figma for collaborative content creation processes
  • Collaborate closely with design teams to seamlessly integrate written copy into visual elements

Responsive HTML:

  • Demonstrate experience in responsive HTML for emails and other digital content
  • Ensure that copy is effectively presented across various devices and platforms

Other Requirements:

On-site Collaboration:

  • Attend meetings at the Stellenbosch Campus once or twice a week to align with internal teams
  • Maintain open communication with team members to facilitate collaboration

Hardware and Tools:

    MacBook: Candidates to have their own Macbook (the provision of hardware should not be a shared or communal responsibility. If there are security protocol issues, the candidate would need to involve the IT department for assistance.)

Writing and Editing Tools: Candidates to have their own software

  • Word
  • Excel (In-app, SMS and social media templates)
  • Powerpoint
  • Figma – all direct marketing templates and journeys are in the Figma ecosystem

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Microsoft Teams
  • Email
  • When off-site, teams are expected to be available online during working hours

Project Management Tools:

  • Timekeeping i.e. Toggl Track
  • Project view is in Excel
  • In the process to moving to a project management tool (Wryke)


  • Relevant degree in Communication, Marketing, or related field
  • Proven experience as a Copywriter with a relevant portfolio
  • Familiarity with AI prompts, particularly ChatGPT4, showcasing adaptability to emerging technologies
  • Proficient in crafting content for diverse platforms, including email, SMS, in-app and digital programmatic
  • Technical proficiency in Responsive HTML for Data Driven Creative (DDC)
  • Experience using collaborative design tools like Figma to seamlessly integrate copywriting into design processes
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, particularly within the context of integrated marketing campaigns
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, vital for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and clients
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment, adapting to evolving project requirements and timelines
