Freelance Senior Conceptual Creative Team (Art Director and Copywriter)

We are looking for an Art Director and Copywriter duo based in Johannesburg! Working location: Johannesburg Working Type: Hybrid (2 days in office) Hours: 20 to 40 hours per week Budget: R40 000 - R45 000 (Take Home)


About this position

Main Responsibilities:

Conceptualize Creative Campaigns:

- Collaborate closely to brainstorm and develop innovative and effective creative concepts.

- Translate brand and marketing objectives into compelling visual and written concepts.

- Create mood boards, storyboards, and initial drafts to illustrate ideas.

Campaign Development:

- Work together to refine and expand upon initial concepts, ensuring they align with client briefs and goals.

- Develop detailed creative executions that cover art direction, copywriting, and integrated media strategies.

Creative Production:

- Oversee the production of creative assets, ensuring high-quality execution.

- Supervise and provide guidance to designers, illustrators, photographers, and other creative professionals as needed.

Presentation and Pitching:

- Present and articulate creative ideas effectively to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.

- Participate in pitches, contribute innovative concepts, and support the team in securing new business opportunities.

Collaboration and Mentorship:

- Foster a collaborative and creative work environment within the team and with other departments.

- Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members, helping them grow and develop their skills.

Industry Trends:

- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and creative best practices.

- Apply this knowledge to enhance the quality and relevance of our creative work.


  • Proven experience as an Art Director/Copywriter in a creative agency or similar environment.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative campaigns and projects.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management software.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for innovation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Marketing, Design, or a related field.
  • Experience working in various media, including print, digital, video, and social.
  • Knowledge of data-driven marketing and analytics.
  • Previous experience in pitching and securing new business.
