Mid-Weight Community Manager (Contract)

The Mid-Weight Community Manager will build, engage, and grow online communities across multiple social platforms. This role involves day-to-day community engagement, content scheduling, audience interaction, social listening, trend monitoring, and strengthening brand loyalty across consumer-facing audiences. The role focuses on UK-based trade communities (e.g., plumbers, gas engineers, skilled trades) and requires someone who understands platform culture, fast-paced engagement, and ideally has exposure to paid social.

About this position

Retainer: R24,000 - R33,600 per month

Contract Duration: 6-months (with a 3-month probationary period; after this to be extended as a rolling contract)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily community interactions across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit (ideal), and X.
  • Respond to comments, DMs, and audience queries using brand tone and guidelines.
  • Conduct social listening: monitor brand mentions, sentiment, trends, and competitor activity.
  • Collaborate with the content team to schedule posts and support social rollouts.
  • Identify opportunities for UGC, trends, creator engagement, trade community conversations, etc.
  • Compile weekly/monthly reports: insights, community growth, sentiment, engagement.
  • Maintain consistent brand tone across all platforms and elevate community conversations.
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing and creative to improve engagement and retention.
  • Escalate negative sentiment or issues following internal protocols.
  • Stay on top of algorithm updates, new formats, platform trends, and best practices.
  • Engage specialised UK trade communities (plumbers, gas engineers, tradespeople).
  • Support quick boosting of posts (paid social awareness ideal).

Technical Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Community Manager or Social Media Manager.
  • Experience managing active online communities (preferably B2C, lifestyle, or trades/vertical communities).
  • Strong writing skills and ability to adapt tone for different brands
  • Strong understanding of platform behaviour across major social channels.
  • Experience using scheduling tools (Rella, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, Buffer, Meta Business Suite).
  • Ability to multitask and manage high-volume interactions.
  • Ability to analyse metrics and develop meaningful engagement reports.
  • Excellent organisational & communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
