Digital Designer (Freelance)

We are seeking a highly skilled freelance Digital Designer to become the business’s go-to creative partner, owning visual output across digital marketing, brand, physical environments, and product design. This is not a junior execution role. The successful candidate will independently manage design projects from concept through to final delivery, producing high-quality creative work that strengthens our brand across multiple customer touchpoints. You will work on performance marketing campaigns, signage seen at high-profile venues, digital product assets, website visuals, and broader brand collateral for one of South Africa’s fastest-growing tech platforms.

About this position

Retainer: R16,000 - R24,000 per month (depending on skills and experience)

Location: Waterfront, Cape Town

Contract Length: 6-months

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: 40 hours a month (potential to be have more hours)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Duty 1: Performance Marketing & Campaign Design

  • Design high-converting paid media creatives for Meta, Google, TikTok and other channels
  • Create static, animated and A/B test campaign assets
  • Produce email marketing templates, banners and promotional visuals
  • Develop landing page graphics and conversion-focused creative assets

Duty 2: Brand, Print & Environmental Design

  • Design in-mall and parking signage including wayfinding, instructional and promotional assets
  • Produce large-format print collateral such as boom gate wraps, pillar branding and decals
  • Create launch kits for new venue rollouts across South Africa
  • Develop presentations, pitch decks, partner collateral and internal communications materials
  • Ensure brand consistency across all customer-facing touchpoints

Duty 3: Product & Digital Design

  • Support UI/UX design for our app including onboarding flows, screens and modals
  • Design responsive website and microsite assets
  • Maintain design systems and component libraries in Figma
  • Prototype new user journeys and digital features

Technical Requirements & Qualifications.

  • Minimum 5 years’ professional design experience
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating commercial design work across digital, print and branding
  • Proven experience creating performance marketing assets that deliver measurable results
  • Strong understanding of print production processes and large-format artwork setup
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or similar preferred
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects)
  • Figma

  • Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
  • Motion design tools advantageous (Lottie, Rive, animation software)
