Digital Marketing/Social Media Specialist (Freelance)

We are seeking a hands-on Digital Marketing Specialist to support the growth of its B2C marketing efforts, with a strong focus on social media and content-led marketing. This freelance role is ideal for a creative, digitally savvy marketer with 2–4 years of experience who enjoys working in an early-stage startup environment. The successful candidate will help strengthen our social media presence, drive engagement with international travelers, and execute content-first marketing initiatives that showcase African brands and products. The role combines content creation, social media management, and paid media support, with Meta platforms as the primary advertising channel.

About this position

Retainer: R280 - R360 per hour

Location: Remote (ideally Cape Town based)

Contract Duration: 3-months (with a high potential to extend)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management
    • Manage and schedule content across Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest
    • Improve overall brand presence and consistency across social platforms
    • Plan and execute posting calendars aligned with marketing goals
    • Boost and promote high-performing posts via Meta Ads Manager
    Content Creation & Coordination
    • Create engaging marketing content including captions, visuals, and storytelling posts
    • Collaborate with Local Leo’s network of 26 vendors to source and curate product content
    • Help build and expand Pinterest collections focused on décor and travel-inspired products
    • Support a content-first marketing approach aligned with the brand narrative
    Paid Media & Performance Support
    • Support execution and optimization of Meta advertising campaigns (primary channel)
    • Assist with Google Ads where required (secondary priority)
    • Monitor campaign performance and suggest improvements
    • Track KPIs and report on marketing performance for freelancer evaluation

Technical Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in digital marketing or social media marketing
  • Experience managing B2C social media accounts
  • Exposure to paid social advertising (Meta Ads essential and google ads)
  • Understanding of content marketing principles
  • Experience working with e-commerce or travel-related brands is highly advantageous
  • Comfortable working independently in a startup environment
