Sales Manager (Contract)

As one of our first Sales Managers, you will own the full inbound sales cycle — from qualified lead to close — converting warm opportunities into long-term, high-value merchant relationships. You’ll bring structure, insight, and energy to a fast-growing startup, helping to define how our company scales its inbound sales operations. This role requires a consultative seller who thrives in startup environments, collaborates cross-functionally, and drives measurable growth in merchant acquisition.

About this position

Retainer: R28,000 (excluding commission)

Location: Cape Town

Contract Duration: 6-months (possibility of extension or perm)

Start Date: Jan 2026

Commission: up to 20% of revenue generated

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and convert inbound qualified leads from Apollo and other channels into active, recurring merchants.
  • Conduct discovery calls to understand merchant needs and communicate our value proposition effectively.
  • Maintain an accurate and transparent sales pipeline within Apollo for visibility and forecasting.
  • Follow up on marketing-generated opportunities (events, PR, social, referrals) to drive conversions.
  • Track and analyze key sales metrics such as conversion rates, time-to-close, and average order value to improve performance.
  • Provide regular feedback to Marketing on lead quality and collaborate with Account Management on smooth post-close onboarding.
  • Develop scalable inbound sales playbooks, including call scripts, email templates, and cadence structures.
  • Support and eventually mentor SDRs as the sales function expands.

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of B2B or SME sales experience (startup, SaaS, logistics, or e-commerce experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated success managing a full sales cycle from discovery to close.
  • Strong consultative selling and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Experience using Apollo or similar CRM systems for pipeline and reporting.
  • High commercial acumen and curiosity for how businesses scale.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
