Mid Weight Account Manager
We are looking for a Mid-Weight Account Manager who can become a trusted strategic partner to their clients. Someone who can understand their business, guide the marketing strategy and coordinate the right internal specialists to bring that strategy to life. You’ll own a portfolio of approximately 10–15 clients, primarily smaller-to-mid-sized local businesses, and become a key strategic point of contact for them. You’ll sit at the intersection of client relationships, marketing strategy and project management. You’ll need enough digital marketing knowledge across paid media, social, content, SEO, email and landing pages to have confident conversations with clients, identify opportunities and know when to bring in the relevant specialist. You won't be expected to execute every channel yourself. Instead, you’ll work collaboratively with our clients internal specialists to develop and deliver the right strategy for each client. The ideal person is consultative rather than transactional — someone who can challenge a brief, make recommendations and confidently explain why a particular marketing approach may or may not work.
About this position
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Client Relationships
- Own day-to-day relationships across a portfolio of 10–15 clients.
- Build long-term, trusted relationships with business owners and Marketing Managers.
- Lead regular client meetings and confidently present strategies, recommendations, campaign ideas and budgets.
- Translate technical marketing information and performance data into clear, commercially relevant advice.
- Manage expectations, deadlines and communication across your accounts.
- Act as a strategic partner to clients rather than simply taking briefs and passing them on.
- Know when to challenge a client and provide an informed recommendation.
- Identify opportunities to improve client performance and add value.
Strategy & Campaigns
- Own the overarching marketing strategy for your clients, working collaboratively with internal specialists.
- Understand the role of channels such as paid media, social, SEO, email, content and landing-page optimisation within a wider strategy.
- Work with specialists to develop channel-specific strategies and recommendations.
- Monitor campaign performance and understand what is working, what isn't and what should change.
- Bring strategic ideas to the table based on client objectives, performance data, market trends and research.
- Stay up to date with changes across the digital marketing landscape.
- Identify opportunities for additional services or activity within existing client accounts and bring these to the wider team.
Team & Workflow
- Write clear, actionable briefs for creative and marketing specialists.
- Coordinate work across paid media, content, creative, SEO, email and other specialists.
- Manage project timelines, deliverables and client expectations using project management tools.
- Review work before it reaches the client, ensuring it aligns with the brief and meets Barrk's quality standards.
- Flag capacity or delivery issues early and proactively find solutions.
- Coordinate external suppliers or freelancers when additional support is required.
- Keep multiple accounts and deadlines moving without losing attention to detail.
Requirements & Qualifications:

- Previous agency experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience managing multiple clients or brands simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing across paid media, organic/social, content and email.
- You don't need to be a specialist in every channel, but you need enough knowledge to brief specialists, sense-check recommendations and have credible conversations with clients.
- Proven experience developing or contributing to marketing strategy, not just coordinating delivery.
- Confident presenting to clients and explaining performance, recommendations and strategy in simple, accessible language.
- Comfortable working directly with business owners and Marketing Managers.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities to grow existing accounts.
- Highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
- A consultative mindset — you're comfortable recommending a different approach when you believe it will deliver better results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable using AI tools as part of your day-to-day workflow.
- Cape Town-based and comfortable with a hybrid working environment.
